We Carried Your Secrets Event - Newtownabbey

We Carried Your Secrets – DVD Screening & Discussion Session – Newtownabbey
7.30pm 24th March 2011

As a part of the CAN PEACE III Partnership Dialogue and Civic Leadership Programme, a special workshop will be held in Newtownabbey with some of the performers from the Theatre of Witness project’s ‘We Carried Your Secrets’ production.
‘We Carried Your Secrets’, united a group of fathers who are ex-combatants and who were on the front lines during the 'Troubles'. Together they shared their shadow stories of the conflict, their reasons for actively joining their political group and of their transformation. We also heard the stories of the next generation: one who grew up with a father as a member of the RUC, one whose father was murdered and one who frequently participated in anti-social behaviour. What legacy have they been left? How do they carve a future in a land divided by conflict? What is their own private struggle in finding their place?

At the workshop in Newtownabbey the DVD of the development and performance of the production will be screened. This will be followed by a question and answer/discussion session where people will have the opportunity to engage with some of the performers and find out more about the Theatre of Witness project and the impact that it has had on the lives of those involved.
